Biography
LEWISBURG - Betty Arlene Swartz, 85, of 1283 Swartz Road, entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at 9:35 a.m. at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where she was a patient since Jan. 31, 2010. She had resided in the Black Run area of Buffalo Township since 1950, and prior to that lived in West Milton.
She was born Feb. 12, 1924, in West Milton, a daughter of the late Hattan and Mary E. (Hoffman) Moore. She was united in marriage on March 26, 1948, in West Milton, to Weldon Eugene Swartz, who preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1996.
During World War II, Betty was employed at Chef Boy-ar-dee, Milton, and since then was a homemaker.
She was a member of Four Square Gospel Church, Lewisburg, an active member of the Union County Democratic Women, a social member of the Yoder-Zimmerman Post 1964 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mifflinburg, and the Wallace W. Fetzer Post 71 American Legion, Milton. For many years Betty served as the pianist at the Black Run Church, Lewisburg.
She is survived by 11 children and their spouses, Hugh E. Swartz, of Northumberland, James E. and Cheryl L. Swartz, of Lewisburg, Wayne H. and Patsy A. Swartz, of Lewisburg, Mary E. Wise, of Milton, Dennis O. Swartz, of Lewisburg, Brenda L. Swartz, of Lewisburg, Kaye M. Harrison, of Littleton, Colo., Barry L. and Linda Swartz, of Lewisburg, Scott E. and Michele Swartz, of Denver, Colo., Earl A. and Brenda L. Swartz, of Lewisburg, and Dixie L. and John Paladino, of Lewisburg; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Alverna Miller, of Milton; one brother, Leland D. Moore, of Lewisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hattan Jr., Bernard, and Robert Moore.
Visitors will be received from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Service, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, followed by the funeral service at noon, with the Rev. Michael C. Romig, pastor of Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, officiating.
