Sudharman, born as J. Joseph Fenton, 70, of 428 Market St.,New Berlin, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 5, 2010, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1940, in Duluth, Minn., a son of the late Charles Elmore and Dorothy (Doolittle) Fenton.

He was a 1957 graduate of Lewisburg Area High School. A Dragons football star, he went to Cornell University on an athletic and academic scholarship, graduating in 1961 with a bachelor of science in zoology. While at Cornell, he was a member of Sigma Phi fraternity, and in 1960, he earned the achievement of Academic All-Ivy and All-American football player.

He entered the Navy in 1961, earning the rank of lieutenant junior grade serving as a UDT-22 frogman, what is now the Navy Seals, until his honorable discharge in 1965.

Sudharman, a yogi, was the president of Integral Yoga Center of Pennsylvania, located in New Berlin. He was initiated as a disciple by his master, Swami Satchidananda, in 1973 and has taught in colleges, hospitals, a medical school, churches, synagogues and public forums throughout the United States and Europe. Sudharman was instrumental in finding and developing the site of Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville, a 600-acre retreat in Buckingham, Va. Early in his career, he went into business, eventually serving as general manager of a minor league football team, working alongside coaching legend Vince Lombardi.

Sudharman was a member of Quill and Daggers Honor Society of Cornell University and served on the Sigma Phi alumni board.

Surviving are two sons, Rham David Fenton, of New York City, and Jonathan Krishna Fenton, of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; one daughter, Lila Ama Heasley, of Virginia; four grandchildren, Edan Victoria Keighley, Jakobe Fenton, James John Fenton and Luke Bear Fenton; and four sisters, Mary Faint, Emily Toeves, Dolly Symonds and Christine Noll.

He was preceded in death by three brothers

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Integral Yoga Center, 428 Market St., New Berlin.

A green burial will be conducted privately at the Fenton homestead, New Columbia.

At the family's request, anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory may make it to the Integral Yoga Center, 428 Market St., New Berlin, PA 17855. These funds will be used to keep the center operating.
